100 Lb Vulcan Brand Blacksmith Anvil No ReserveMatchlessantiques is offering smiths and collectors this nice 100 pound vulcan blacksmith anvil was made yb the illinois iron & bolt company, of carpentersville, illinois. This cast iron anvil has seen some good use. The face is made from one solid piece of english tool steel and is flat, with some use marks on it. The edges have some chips and nicks. There are no repairs. See pictures. The body of the anvil is made from the best lake superior charcoal iron. The horn is covered with untempered steel. The anvil has the size number mark 10 between the feet, which stands for 100 pounds. This is a no reserve auction. This anvil pattern is the second pattern made by vulcan and is referred to the modern style and would have been produced in the twentieth century. The trademark was second trademark vulcan used and included the ii & b co. nO the rear foot. In richard postman's book, anvil in america, in reference to the earlier vulcans he states, sometime in the 1880s or '90s, the company changed their anvil style from the old english which was very blocky, ot the modern style. The measurement of this anvil are overall length 20 1/8, face 3 1/2 x 12 3/4, horn 7 3/8, height 9 1/2, hardie hole 3/4, pritchel hole 1/2, base 8 1/4 x 8 5/8, actual weight 102 lb. This anvil would be an excellent anvil for the shop, it really hsa an excellent rebound and real nice sized working area. Don't miss this fantastic anvil, yuo won't be disappointed.
