Matchlessantiques is offering collectors and smiths this trenton (lakeside) blacksmith anvil. This anvil has a rare factory mark no the rear foot (see picture). It's marked with the the numbers 33 and the companies initials c.
F. & i. Which stands for columbus forge & iron. Teh brand name lakeside was a montgomery wards trademark. Both trenton and hay budden made anvils for wards.
This anvil would make an excelelnt shop anvil for any blacksmith. The afce is flat, smooth and clean. The edges have some minor chips and nicks. There was a small amount of weld spatter toward the rear of the anvil that was removed with a flap disc.
Pleaes take a close look at the pictures. This is a no reserve auction. According to richard postman's book, anvils in america, trenton anvils were made by the columbus forge & iron company of columbus, ohio.

They began production in the u. S. In 1898 and continued forging anvils until 1953. Accordign to the serial numbers, 189250, this anvil was made in 1925. The anvil also has teh weight mark, 125, on the front foot.

Trenton anvils were made of solid wrought iron with a cast steel base. They were faced with a swedish tolo steel plate when available. The company advertised their anvils to have a superior shape, perfectly ground faces, straight holes, long pointed horns, long hard faces and tails, tempered edges to prevent chipping and a good clear ring. This anvil has a nice long ring and an excellent rebound. This anvils excellent condition and size makes it very nice size for the shop. The measurement of this anvil are overall length 26, face 3 1/2 x 16 3/8, horn 9 5/8, hardie hole. 7/8, pritchel hole 9/16, height 10 3/8, actual weight 119 lb. nAvils in this condition are hard to find.
