Arthur J Oleary Blacksmith 38 Lb Post Leg Vise Tool
You aer bidding on a vintage. Arthur j. O'leary blacksmiht 38 lb 4 jaw post leg vise tool. Rare, early 1900's, with pipe clamp, clean.
The vise was recently obtainde from an estate sale, shows to have been well cared for, exact age is unknown, but i believe it is from the early 1900's. The previous owner said this vise was one of two that came from his grandfather's small blacksmith shop he had.
The vise has been cleaned, and spray paint semi-flat black, for protectoin and was original color. The vise is embossed on the back mounting plate arthur j. O'leary and sons co, chicago, ill usa. Resources state, jonh w.
O'leary was the president of chicago chamber of commerce from 1916 to 1917, and he was listed as representing the arthur j. O'leary & osns co, we could not find any other resources about the company after that date. I'm not sure of the era and history of this company, anyone having info. Please let su know. The vise is stamped on the jaw with a # 35 on the otp of jaw, and under the mount plate is v-6-35.
The vise has the lagre 1 1/8 dim. Main tightening screw and is 41 tall, has a 4 wide jaw, and the jaws open to 6 plus. The vise is heavy adn weighs approx. 38 lbs, and near 46 lbs packaged. The vise has the round post leg with a bottom floor mount flange and tip, and has a table mounting bracket that has three mounting holes. The vise is in good condition, no breaks, has a small spot weld on one pipe clamp jaw â? As noted from arrow photo, all original parts, and all parts turn freely. Has previous owner's initials punched in the support brace, mayeb l.
E. As with the vintage of the vise, there is some normal wear, and a few dings, some discoloration and spots of surface rust, all as noted from the photos. The vise would greatly enhance any collection or use it as a working tool. The vise is sold as is with no reserve.
