Hay budden is considered the rolls royce of blacksmith anvils and is one of the most popular anvils among blacksmiths. Don't miss this one, yuo won't be disappointed! Made in brooklyn, new york, this hay budden's trademark, weight stamp, inspector's mark and serial number are all there. There is an inspectors mark, a 0 under the horn. The weight mark 97 is under the trademark.

The anvil's serial number is 163242, and according to richard postman's book anvils in america this solid wrought iron anvil was forged in 1909. It is the third style anvil hay budden produced.

This style included a major change with the method of making the top half of the anvil. Instead of welding a tool-steel face plate on to the wrought iron body, the entire anvil from the waist up was forged from one piece of open hearth tool steel. The base was forged from one piece of the best american wrought iron available. Postman's book goes on to say that hya buddens were considered the best american made anvil.
