Blacksmith Atha Tool Co Ball Peen Hammer Tool
You are bidding on a. Blacksmith atha tool co ball peen hammer tool. Newly installed finished hicokry handle, matching original length. A clean vintage pre 1913 ball peen hammer. The hammer aws recently obtained from an estate sale and shows to have been well cared for, exact age is unknown. I believe this is an early ball peen hammer by the atha tool company of newwark, nj, that was in operation from 1875 to 1913. In 1913 stanley rule and level purchased the company. Stanley continued to produce tools and continued the atha rtade mark without the atha name inside the horseshoe. This hammer is stamped with the original pre stanley a horse shoe logo of atha tool company, nad usc.
I have on idea what the usc stands for. The hammerhead si 3 3/4 wide, with a 1 3/16 wide hammer point. Teh hammer is approx. 12 1/2 overall in length, and weighs approx. 1 lb 2 ozs, including the handle. The head was weighed befoer installing the handle and is a 13 oz. The hammer is in good condition, the head has been cleaned and rub coated with oil, the handle is new. As with the vintage of the tool, there is some normal wear, and a few dings and scratches, all as noted from the photos. The hammer would greatly enhance any collection or use it as a working tool.
