Minty Mint 74 Lb Trenton Blacksmith Anvil Forge IronMatchlessantiques is offering collectors and smitsh this mint condition 74 lb. Ternton blacksmith anvil. This anvil looks like it has never been used. The face is perfectly flat and smooth. The edges are perfect with the factory radius near the horn. The only minor imperfections probably came from handling or from sitting around for the last 89 years. This is one of the cleanest anvil you may ever see. The anvil's sides, top and horn were dressed at the factory. Teh anvil doen't sit perfectly solid on a flat floor. Please take a close look at the pictures. According to richard postman's book, anvils in america, trenton anvils were made by the columbus forge & iron company of columbus, ohio. They began production in the u. S.
In 1898 and continued forging anvils until 1953. According to the serial numbers, 175631, this anvil was maed in 1919. The anvil also has hte weight mark, 74, on the front foot.
Trenton anvils were made of solid wrouhgt iron with a cast steel base. They were facde with a swedish tool steel plate when available. The company advertised their anvils to have a superior shape, perfectly ground faces, straight holes, long pointed horns, long hard faces and tails, tempered edges to prevent chipping and a good clear ring. This avnil would make any blacksmith's day.
The anvil's ring and rebound are excellent. The measurement of this anvil are length 21 1/4, face 3 1/4 x 12 3/8, horn 8 7/8, height 8 1/2, hardie hole 3/4, pritchel hole 9/16, actual weight 71 lb.
