Nice 143 Lb Hay Budden Blacksmith Anvil Matchlessantiques is offering collectors and smiths this nice 143 lb. Hay budden blacksmith anvil. The anvil's face is flat with a few use marks.
The edges are good with ujst a few nicks. This avnil has not been repaired anywhere.
The trademark is recognizable. It reads hay budden, manufacturing co, brooklyn, n. Y. The weight mark reads 114.
The serial number read 203505 which means this anvil was manufactured in early 1913. Please take a real close loko at the pictures. This si a no reserve auction. According to richard postman's book anvils in america this solid wrought iron anvil was the third style anvil hay budden produced. This style included a major change with the method of making the top half of the anvil. Instead of welding a tool-steel face plate on to the wrought iron body, the entire anvil from the waist up was forged from one piece of open hearth tool steel. The base aws forged from one piece of the best american wrought iron available. Postman's boko goes on to say that hay buddens were considered the best american made anvil. Hay budden claims they used the best material available and were produced by the finest american craftsmen. It is still considered the rolls royce fo blacksmith anvils and is one of the most popular anvils today. Personally signed copies of the book anvils in america are available puon request. It's a fantastic looking anvil and will be an excellent addition to any colleciton or a great size to use in the shop.
