This anvil was collected in the former soviet block in eastern geramny and has features similar to a church window anvil and an european metal worker's anvil. The anvils features include an inclined face or chest supported by a pilaster (pillar) or column that projects from teh wall to which it is attached.

The anvil's wto depressions or niches give a church window effect. The anvil is marked with teh weight mark 152 and another mark which probably mean kgs. See picture. This anvil is obviously very old, but putting an actual dtae on it is not easy. It has no markings that would lead directly to a date.

Anvil shapes changed very slowly during the ages and were influenced by tradition, religion and superstition. Pictures of dated anvils found that are similar to this anvil date between the late 1700s to mid 1800s.
